Diploma in Public Health Nursing

Description

Public Health Nursing (PHN) deals with promotive health care. It will also help meet the community needs in Ghana. Although there are other programmes in nursing providing promotive health care at the community level such as Nurse Assistant Preventive (NAP), the Public Health Nursing Programme equips graduates with special skills to undertake population-based health initiatives related to prevention and control of both communicable and non-communicable diseases, promoting reproductive health, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, prevention of injury, and other leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the community.

The Public Health Nurse is trained adequately to be able to assume leadership roles in managing health care units within communities and function as a core member of the District Health Management Team (DHMT) and Sub-District Health Team (SDHT).
